For reference, I’m (26m) looking for a Spring marathon to race. I’m slowly coming back into form from an injury and want to find a good place to BQ.
Although, I actually live in Michigan… My friend who lives in Burlington, VT asked me to join him for the Vermont City, Marathon.
Not having ever been to the East Coast, I don’t know a ton about this marathon. For those who have run it, how did you like the course? What was the elevation like? Is hot weather a big concern in Vermont in late May? Is it a semi-scenic marathon?
Id just be curious to hear your thoughts! My other option (which is closer but also much sooner) is Glass City in Toledo, which I’ve heard is a great place to BQ (if weather cooperates). But I think it’d be fun to travel and meet up with a friend for this one! Lmk what you think!

This is my home town marathon, heat is less likely to be a problem than rain. Elevation can be intense for a midwesterner but it’s not particularly notable for around here. Scenery is pretty cool for stretches, but may isn’t particularly scenic here. Vibes are off the charts though, we don’t really have “athletics” in Burlington and the whole city treats the marathon like their chance to act like they’re at a college football game.
I have the website for this race open in another tab, considering it to be my first full. I live in Boston but I just really love Burlington lol it’s the cutest little town and I love being on the lake I think the whole area is so nice :) My only goal is to finish the race without walking, and to have a good time so these sound like the vibes I need! Now I’m seriously considering it…
Elevation… Ya… It’s a thing if you’re not used to it.
