I travel a lot and, ideally, I’d find a route on Strava or make one up and send it to the watch and go run (as to avoid pulling out my phone to see where I’m at). Which watch is best for this?
I have the Forerunner 235 which has been great (especially the light weight - 42grams) but I don’t think it supports routes (or not easily at least). This would be for marathon and a 50-miler training.
I was thinking perhaps the:
Forerunner 955 (Solar or not): https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/777730 (53grams)
Forerunner 965: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/886725 (53grams)
fenix 7X pro Solar: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/865822 (This looks to be the heaviest at 79grams)
Should I be considering any other models?
What’s the best way to send routes? Via Strava (I have the paid subscription if that matters) or via the Garmin Connect App?
Thanks!
edit: or the Enduro 2: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/854515 (70grams)
I’ve got the 245. I plan my routes on the connect website, and then send them to my watch. This works absolutely fine.
245 supports courses, I’d be pretty surprised if the 235 doesn’t support courses.
My 735 does
Do you mean breadcrumb trail outline? 255 only does that, no full maps, so I assume 245 is similar. For the OP it looks like he will appreciate the full map so 255/265 is out, you need to upgrade to 9XX series.
I can’t help with the watch question, but I’ve been quite happy with using the RunGo App on my phone, since I’ve recently been listening to music on my runs again. You plot out a route (they tend to plot better when using a computer, but it can be done on the phone as well), and run the app while you run, and it gives you audible turn by turn directions.
I like Komoot to plan routes, it can also generate one from your current position. Easy to send to the companion app on the watch. I think it supports any Garmin device that has ConnectIQ.
I have the FR265 which does turn by turn/breadcrumb route. The 965 and Fenixes have full maps. If you want every little detail about these or most other sports watches check out dcrainmaker.
