I’ve done this, not as much first marathon, but training for an ultra. Ran it super slow, zone 2 max. Took sit breaks on park benches, most enjoyable marathon I’ve done
This. If your goal is just to finish… maybe.
I was told the same thing for the half marathon, just practice to 15 or 16 km. Hahaha. Turns out my heart rate drifts high and I get overheated in that last 5+km. Didn’t know that till a race and that’s a BAD time to find out. Now my long run is 15-30km weekly. No exceptions. Race day arrives my body is used to the distance, time involved and fueling strategy. No more surprises.
I’ve been downvoted for telling a first time marathoner to train to 26, rather than 20, so I guess that’s my hot take? 😂🤷♀️
As in run your first marathon by yourself in training?
Maybe not the best idea physically, but often helps mentally get wrap your brain around what you’re going to do.
