Need some advice on what pan/pot I should look at as I am currently meal prepping at uni but my 20cm saucepan is not suitable for large batches since it is quite small.

I prefer stainless steel mainly just because I have more experience with them and I think I prefer a pan that can do most dishes easily. I am looking at 30 cm stuff but can’t seem to find a good pan with a lid.

N.B. I have an induction hob

I mainly cook curries but also would like to cook some stir fry or just seared chicken of the sort.

Much appreciated.

I highly recommend checking out the Cuisinart MCP-12N Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set. It’s a fantastic investment for your uni meal prep, offering versatile options with its 30 cm pans, and the stainless steel construction ensures durability. Plus, it comes with lids, making it perfect for your diverse cooking needs. I’ve personally had a great experience with this set, especially for preparing large batches. Happy cooking!

Stainless steel or cast iron is the way to go. Some are fairly inexpensive, some are pricey, but they will last you a lifetime if you take care of them. They also don’t have nonstick coating on them that is full of chemicals. My husband and I got rid of every piece of “nonstick” and plastic cookware we had because of the chemical breakdown. Personal preference though. ☺️

I find 6L is a good size for meal prep. Any basic induction-compatible pot will do.

I like Cuisinart as a balance of affordable and quality, I assume they’re available in the UK. I have one All Clad pot that cost 4x more than my Cuisinart pot but I wouldn’t say it works 4x better.

It’s slightly nicer to have a pan that’s full tri-ply. Some only have a disk on the bottom (you can usually tell because there’s a visible seam around the bottom, like this one instead of the whole pan having an aluminum core. The ones with only the disk are considered lower quality but they still work fine. For most of us average folks it just doesn’t matter. The biggest difference I find is that my stove buzzes slightly more with a disk-bottomed pan than with a full tri-ply pan.

Goodful everything pan from Amazon. It’s a knock off of the always pan! I make all my one pot dishes in it. It’s non-stick too so it comes clean really easily

I’d go tfal nonstick, or tramontina 3ply stainless.

The tfal pans are cheap and big and non stick means easy cleanup if you take care/usage precautions.

I have found many, many fantastic cooking appliances and utensils at op shops. Give them a good disinfecting clean and leave them in the sun to dry, and they’re good to go!
