I feel called out. I don’t have to do it, but I do it because (1) I don’t want to cheat (2) I’m afraid of not being able to start again if I stop for too long
The Murphy’s law of running is if you want / need a stoplight break it will 100% be green. When you’re in the groove and praying for a green light, it will 110% be red.
The only time I find myself jogging at a light is if I’m doing higher pace intervals.I’m usually feeling so amped up in that workout that it’s almost a placebo to effect to keep that energy up by bouncing around, doing high knees, etc.
I always respect the red light ever since I ran out across stopped traffic at a light and a motorbike cutting up the side stopped about an inch from my leg.
I felt like such a dick.
One time I got my shirt caught on a branch, ran a mile down the path, looked at my wrist, no watch, traced my path back, watch was on the branch. The push pin thing that holds the strap had taken the strap off.
Two miles my Strava will never know I did. Did they even happen??
Maybe you’re joking but do people actually do this? No real point in stopping Garmin. Just a training run isn’t it? And you’re idle, which it records accurately
Well you are free to do whatever you want, I don’t understand the psychology though. It might suggest you are not taking easy runs easy enough if that focused on time. Also be aware that Strava automatically strips out idle time if that matters to you.
A lot of military people have been trained to never stop until they’ve completed the run, so many people with that background approach running with that mindset.
I know this to be true however i can’t stop myself. I was a non-athletic and very out of shape person most of my life, so even though now I run 50+ miles every week I still carry that fear that if I stop jogging I’ll lose my momentum and have to stop for the day 😂
I jog in circles at about 2x lighter of a pace at a red light. It still feels like a nice break while my body doesn’t lose the feeling of my gears working. Stopping, on the other hand, loses my momentum and even just a few seconds of inactivity makes it a b***h to get back. Each runner to themselves, but I’d rather not torture myself that way.
I jog in place at red lights to keep my blood pressure from dropping too low after running a quicker pace so I don’t get lightheaded from the shift in venous return. It makes me look like an obnoxious overachiever, but it can be to keep me from passing out. lol
You don’t have to jog in place at a red light.
It’s for my pride gotta let my nuts hang

ROXANNE!
Very nice
You don’t have to jog on a red light
You don’t have to wear those Brooks tonight
run your race for money
You don’t care if it’s Zone 4 or if it’s 5.
The red light stop started getting fun when my long runs became 25km+

Or stop your watch at every intersection. Lol
Love this! 🤣

If I let my heart rate drop I feel like garbage when I start moving again. Gotta keep moving!
You are not a shark. You will not die if you stop.
You either beat the light, run parallel to traffic until you find an opening, or completely reroute. Stopping is not an option.

I’ve never done this once. Seems so extra, I’ll simply stand there like a regular person
They’re a great chance to get a good drink of water without water boarding yourself.
But you do have to pause your Garmin.

This is the way
Just don’t forget to restart it. Ask me how I know.
Auto pause is a thing
Yeah, that’s why I don’t stop it. I would immediately forget about it.
Same. So much the same.
😂
This person is the only 100% verified runner in this thread.
The pain is real from this comment…
Auto pause is a thing for cycling, is it there for running?
y’all took this comment way more seriously than I expected!

Not joking. :(
I’m not defending my actions, but yeah, if I’m stopping for more than 5 seconds, so is my Garmin!

You need to run back and forth on the sidewalk until it’s green 🏃♀️

I call them “stretch lights”
My routine: whenever you see a red light change your direction randomly.

with your fingers on your neck lol
Aw yeah, it’s flowin alright!
I’ve never understood this because I just run until I have the opportunity to cross
Are you sure? My Strava won’t get mad at me?

I agree. No jogging in place at the red light so instead I dance 🤣
I used to do this. Lol
